You will become aware, from reading the information outlined below about our upcoming litters and our adult dogs, that our puppies are amongst the very best puppies available anywhere. Because of our careful decisions in our purchasing our own puppies, who ultimately become our own breeding stock, we can insure the ultimate end-result for you. We spare no cost or hassle in buying the best breeding stock around the country. This is further enhanced by our years of experience and expertise in selecting, breeding, raising, and producing outstanding dogs and puppies for so many adoptive families. Whether for a trusted family pet, the show ring, or in some cases breeding, you will not be disappointed!

All our pups come with a 2 year health guarantee, which we can proudly boast we have NEVER had the misfortune of having to honor in our placing of 450+ puppies in the past 8 years. Our breeding stock comes from the very best, most long-proven lines, available in the USA. Put bluntly, we have a history of producing healthy dogs with zero health or behavioral issues. Hopefully, you will find this of the most importance, as your puppy will be an added and loved member of your family for the next 12 to 14 years. Price can never offset the health of a loved companion and family member. Although our puppies may cost a little more than those coming from inexperienced and unproven “backyard” and “hobby” breeders, we feel the comfort of knowing that your puppy will not have to be put down prematurely at a young age, let alone the vet bills, more than outweighs a couple hundred dollars more in initial cost. We buy and breed nothing but the best dogs available, and you get nothing but the best puppy as a result.

Below is some information about our litters expected through the next 6 months….

All our litters are sired by Harkleroad's Maximillion, an extremely square and blocky, heavy boned male, with great long feathering on his chest, tail, and legs. Sir Max is in high demand as a stud dog (Max says “life is good!”).and he is used often by other breeders in Connecticut. Max has eyes CERF cleared, heart cleared, and his hips have been prelimed Good and he will receive his final hip and elbow certification in December when he turns two. Max's pedigree displays some of the best lines in the country, Tangleloft and Asterling, among other top lines, and he has over 50 champions in his background. Male Goldens do not get any better than this! You can view Max on the first page of our website, standing sideways. He is an awesome dog with a great even temperament. Very gentle, loving, yet independent in nature. While many of our other adult dogs love water while retrieving a stick or ball is involved, you will find Max off to the side, just swimming around because he just loves to swim. Show ring quality in every way, Max’s only fault is he sometimes forgets he is 90 lbs.! Very gentle and absolutely trustworthy around babies, infants, and small children! We were sooo lucky to have been able to get Max for our breeding program, as well as being our main family house dog….

We have a litter of pups born July 10th that will be available early September.

The Mom, Harkleroad's Golden Angel, is a ½ white English Cream, 4 years old, and this is her 1st litter. She has been placed in a home in Massachusetts as a therapy dog and this was a last second decision to breed her. She is the offspring of our former stud dog, Harkleroad's Bear, OFA Good on hips and elbows, and the daughter of a former breeding female, Harkleroad's Sasha, also OFA Good hips and elbows. Because we know the breeding line we are 100% confident the pups will turn out healthy and good-looking Goldens. Angel has over 34 champions in her background and was a long term breeding project that is now coming to fruition. Angel, on our daily “field trips” to various lakes and rives, is obsessed with butterflies and moths! It is common to see her on a dead run from 30 yards away, after a butterfly that she spotted from afar, jumping in the air trying to get it. Butterflies aside, Angel is a terrifically gentle, calm, and affectionate girl. We are beginning to take non-binding deposits now, which reserves your spot in the picking order. The ultra-light and cream pups are $1300 and the non-creams are $1000. There is a mixture of colorations in Angel’s litter. This litter is now SOLD OUT!!! If you want an English Cream, Angel will be having her 2nd, and last, litter in Spring of 2008. We have already begun taking reservations….

We also have a litter born July 29th, ready to adopt out September 30th, from Harkleroad’s Heavenly Faith, a smaller, light golden dam with a soft and beautifully feathered white undercoat, a medium golden topcoat, and jet black pigmentation in her nose, lips, and eyes. Faith is a very sweet, calm, and ultra-affectionate female. Most commonly, while our other dogs are swimming or running about, you will find Faith to be at your side, recognizing the opportunity to get and give extra love and attention! This is an absolutely gorgeous litter with over 100 champions in the background from some of the very best and healthiest lines in the USA. Of course, the sire is our stud dog, Maximillion. This litter, Faith’s first, includes a range of colors from medium golden to ultra-light Goldens and pups are $1100. We are beginning to accept deposits on these puppies now to reserve spots in the picking order. There are 12 puppies in this litter, 5 females and 7 males NOW SOLD OUT!!

Hawaiian Girl, call name “Makena”, sister to our dam Heavenly Praise (see below), owned by another breeder, but sired by our stud dog, Maximillion, has a litter of pups that will be ready for adoption mid-October. Makena has many of the same qualities as Praise and her looks are very similar. A beautiful girl with a sweet disposition. Her hips are OFA certified. Of Course, as is the case with any litter we sire or involved with, this litter has a strong background of Championship dogs in the breeding background, in excess of 55 Champions. These pups are $950, and the owner, Sharon, is TAKING DEPOSITS NOW…ONLY ONE FEMALE LEFT!!!

Next in line, Harkleroad’s Heavenly Shiloh, a very loyal, and active, light Golden female, was recently bred to Maximillion and we expect her litter to arrive around late September, with pups ready to be adopted out just in time for Thanksgiving. Her hips have been prelimed Good, Eyes CERF and Heart Normal. Shiloh is a ball and stick addict and loves to run and swim. Best of all, Shiloh is very obedient, loyal, and responsive to our commands. This comes from her champion background in field and hunting as well as obedience trials. She has a beautiful, long feathered coat and is on the smaller side at 55 lbs. Most visitors call her “the dog with a smile”…as she actually smiles at you! Shiloh is definitely show ring quality and has great conformation and matches the standards for the breed perfectly. With Shiloh being Champion sired, and having 90% Champions in her five generation pedigree, this will be a much desired litter of pups and will command the attention of breeders and pet families alike. Boasting over 160 Champions in the bloodline, these pups will go for a reasonable $1250 and will look, act, and behave in every way that a top quality Golden Retriever should. Just in time for the New Year, we will have four litters ready for adoption in January and February from Harkleroad’s Heavenly Praise, Miss Emma Rose II, Doc’s Rosemary, and from Hilltop’s Honky Tonk Lady. These litters will have an extraordinarily high percentage of Champions in their backgrounds as well….

Honky Tonk Lady (call name is Bless), is a very large boned, square, blocky, and broad-headed, medium colored female weighing in at 75+ lbs. Bless has all her certifications, including Hips, Elbows, Eyes CERF, and Heart Normal. Upon first look, most people mistake her for one of our male stud dogs. Very muscular, and an extremely agile and hard runner, as well as a powerful swimmer, her physical looks betray her real personality. In truth, Bless is a VERY calm and mellow companion dog, never boisterous towards small children or people in general. Being very gentle in her approach towards you, she will size you up in determining whether you are worthy of her kisses. Once she decides you are, pucker up, as she will be at your side always and will display her calm affection towards you, as you want it, never pushy about it. We are very excited about this upcoming litter, her first! With over 110 champions in her pedigree alone, when combined with our stud dog, Maximillion, and his outstanding physical characteristics and temperament, this litter promises to rival any found across the USA. If you are looking for a dog with a trustworthy and consistently even temperament, even with small children pulling on their tails, this would be one of the litters for you. Bless is just so gentle! Having a total Champion count of over 170 champions in the background, these pups will display exactly the characteristics that books and legends about Golden Retrievers are written about. Just in time to kick in the new year of 2008, in January, puppies will be ready for adoption from Miss Emma Rose II, her 2nd litter. Emma is a darker, slightly reddish Golden Retriever with a well-proportioned and square head, perky ears, and inquisitive facial expression. Emma has such a great look about her, with a very nice coat and terrific feathering around her ears. More importantly, she is both very intelligent and very patient in accepting and obeying her commands. Emma’s 1st litter was absolutely fabulous! All her pups took on the features of dad, Maximillion, with nice boxy noses, blocky heads, and heavy boned. We expect the same from this 2nd litter. With all her certifications including hips, elbows, eyes CERF, and heart, as well as her litter having over 75 champions in the background, her pups will be adopted out for only $1100. Doc’s Rosemary, a light female Golden, is a smaller dam. Besides being sweet and affectionate, she has a very unique feature…she has a colic on the top of her head that makes it look like she has a Mohawk haircut!! We call her “Mohawk” or “Rosemohawk”. Don’t worry though, this is not a hereditary feature and will not be passed on to the puppies. Although Rosemary loves to swim and play with the other dogs on our daily field trips, make no mistake about it, although she is the smallest of our dogs, she is definitely THE BOSS! She is a great girl and this litter will have over 105 Champions in the certified pedigree. Her dad has almost 100% Champions in his background. At 18 months old, her hips have been prelimed Good, and she will get her final certifications early next year. This litter, being sired by our Maximillion, seems destined to produce a mix of ultra-light and medium golden pups with very desirable features. Rosemary is in heat now and these pups will be ready to go your home mid-January. Pups will be $1100. ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS NOW!!


Also ready to be the center of attention during family get-togethers during the New Year, Harkleroad’s Heavenly Praise, mated with Maximillion, will have a litter ready to adopt out as a great self or family gift around mid to late January. Praise, a traditionally colored Golden, is clearly the smartest and fastest of all our dogs. When on our daily “field trips”, Praise consistently shows off her running, swimming, and retrieving skills, beating all others to retrieve the ball or stick, no matter how much she may start behind the others. Often, we can fool her to starting off in the wrong direction for a stick throw, just to give the other dogs a chance to retrieve it. It doesn’t work! Even if 30 yards behind, on a 20 yard throw, she beats everybody anyway. Land or water, it doesn’t matter, Praise is just plain flat out fast and agile! Praise is just a great example of the physical attributes that a top Golden Retriever should possess! Praise is, quite frankly, a VERY smart dog and can sense exactly what you want, and she aims to please you. Praise also possesses extremely good watchdog characteristics. Sounding off the alarm whenever someone enters the boundaries of our property, she is the best doorbell we could ever have. (Of course, like any well-bred Golden, if she actually caught an “intruder”, she would lick them to death!). SMART, SMART, and more SMART, as well as AFFECTIONATE is the best way to describe Praise. This litter will have over 60 champions in its pedigree and would be a great choice for owners desiring a family dog, with high intelligence, where small children are present and want a watchful eye looking over them, protecting and occupying them... About our deposit and reservation process….We accept non-binding deposits to lock in your position in the picking order of any particular litter. Such as 2nd pick, 5th pick, etc. If at your pick position we do not have a puppy that has the coloration, features, sex that you desire, then we refund your deposit. No questions asked. We have never kept a deposit and never will. Most of our puppies are reserved before birth or shortly thereafter and we want you to adopt the puppy with the traits and temperament that you desire. Our satisfied customers are our best source of future business and referrals!

Just a quick word about price…. Any pups from good and knowledgeable breeders will cost between $900 and $1500, some as much as $3000. BEWARE of classified ad breeders and NEVER buy from a pet store. Usually these puppies come from “puppy mills” in the mid-West, where the health and emotional well-being of adults and puppies are one of the last concerns. Good breeding practices are non-existent. It is not uncommon to see more than 50% of these puppies having to be put down before even 5 years of age due to hip dysplasia, cancers, and a variety of other ailments. Also be wary of “hobby breeders” and “backyard breeders”. These are typically well meaning persons who think it would be good to see their female having the opportunity to become a “mother”. So often these ill-advised persons are breeding dogs with significant faults to other dogs that also have significant faults, not even realizing their mistakes. That is why the breed has so many health problems inherent today. The result is dogs who grow up to be hyper-active, aggressive, and with a variety of health issues.

Why is using a GOOD breeder important?? You are adding a valued member that will, if a healthy pup, be around your family for the next 12+ years. Of course, you are choosing a Golden for their outstanding gentleness and temperaments, their true patience when dealing with children and young family members, their extreme intelligence, and their striking beauty. The last thing you would want is a pup who grows up to be ill-tempered, severely ill, or who dies prematurely. There are so many more important things to consider rather than price…..the health history of the breeding line, about Dad, about Mom, health guarantees, how experienced is the breeder, health clearances on the parents, etc. Avoid breeders who are unknowledgeable and use ill-thought out breeding practices and decisions. Every week I meet owners and their Goldens who own “purebred” Goldens who in no way look, nor act, like according to the breed standard. Many of these dogs are high-strung and hyper-active, or even aggressive, and many look more like an Irish Setter than a Golden Retriever. Yet, they are “purebred” dogs. So, please do yourself a big favor. Make price one of your last concerns….
